I have had the same experience here with the IC-765 roofing filter.
While the AM bandwidth is reduced, it is not at all objectional to
my ears. I still find the audio on short wave broadcast stations
to be quite full-bodied. SWL'ing was never really a hi-fi activity
to begin with, but I think the audio on AM is still quite pleasant
with the roofing filter installed.
The receiver performance under CW contest conditions sounded significantly
better. I heard far fewer "phantom gleeps and bleeps" during the recent
CQ World-Wide CW contest. I think I also experienced less QRM from the
primary transmitter, which was an IC-781 and AL-1200 at legal limit feeding
antennas on the same tower. Bandpass filters were used on both radios.
INRAD makes some great products.
Happy holidays to George and Georgia,
and to all of the INRAD list readers.
