Hi Mike,
You could of course do like I did, and prepare the rig based on which type of operating you were about to embark on. For example, I used mine for mainly SSB and RTTY contesting. I found it helpful to have cascaded 2.1KHz filters, plus a 1.8KHz for SSB while on RTTY, it was a 400KHz plus cascaded 250Hz. I think I remember having to use the IF shift to centre the passband when using the 250Hz filters, but apart from that all was cool.
I no longer own an 850, but it is a really great rig.
regards,
Dean

Subject: [INRAD] Populating TS 850 with INRAD filters
I'd like to solicit opinions on how to make the best use of the three available filter slots in the Kenwood 850. My interest is in CW contesting and DXing, but I have never owned a SSB filter in my life. Seems like the 1/2 punch of 500/250 Hz makes sense for CW, but which IF should the narrow filter be installed in? What would be the best combination for CW only and for CW as the primary mode with one SSB filter?
Thanks,
-Mike, K4GU
