Hi Jack:
It's posted on http:// www.mods.dk/ and I still receive at least two
e-mail a week about the mod. A lot of hams are too afraid or don't
posses the necessary skills to change out these diodes. After paying
1500 to 2000 bucks for a radio it normally works great, if you get my
drift. A friend says these kind of rigs have two good days, one the
first day it was purchased and two, the day it was gotten rid of. I
changed out the noisy diode switches in the hf bandpass filters. It's a
lot quieter and hears one heck of a lot better. Roofing filters are out
of the question as the receiver first If is on two separate frequencies,
69.085 and 75.925 and these are switched, even in the hf bands. A
Canadian amateur, John Turgoose posted the noise improvement using sound
card recordings of before and after the mod. Don Busick who owned
Madison Electronics kept his new TS-2000 for a week. I have never been
on moon-net. Apparently someone else listed it there. Kenwood suggested
the mod to an amateur at the Dayton hamfest who sent me an e-mail. I
haven't experimented with the UHF, VHF section of the TS-2000. I did
research on some quieter semiconductors for the V and U front end but
never pursued the project. It is my understanding the rig is very noisy
on 1296 also. Mine does not have this band. I like your call. My elmer
in electronics and ham radio 42 years ago was K8US, old call K8SJU. We
were in uncle Sam's yachting club.
