[INRAD] Cascading filters in the Mk V Field

Looking for some help. I have a Field with the stock filters and a Yaesu
8.2 MHz (2nd IF) 2.0 kHz SSB filter. I am getting a roofing filter mod from
George, along with a 500 Hz 455 kHz filter for the sub receiver. I'd like
to have a 250 Hz option for the main receiver, but I don't know whether or
not to order the 2nd IF (8.2 MHz) or 3rd IF (455 kHz) version. I don't have
the dough to buy both IFs, and Yaesu won't allow you to cascade the 500 Hz
2nd IF filter with a 250 Hz 3rd IF filter, at least from the front panel.
So here's the question: if I install a 250 Hz filter in the 3rd IF and
select NAR2 from the front panel, do I get 2.4 kHz @ the second IF and 250
Hz at the third IF, or just a lot of quiet? The manual says that NAR2
chooses 250 Hz @ the second IF and 250 Hz at the 3rd IF, but what if you
don't have the optional 250 Hz filter at the second IF? The stock situation
for NAR1 selection is kind of the inverse of this situation: 500 Hz at 2nd
IF and 2.4 kHz at 3rd, and this works even though the manual says that the
radio will choose 500 in both IFs in NAR1.

Thanks,
Mike, K4GU
